Let's read

So, after several classes I begin to evaluate their proficiency in English which was not good at all. Kids at about 10 years old cannot read simple word fluently. and I personally believe it's important to be able to read and that reading will lead them to something else. So I look for some work sheet to help them learn to read like b_n c_n m_n  and they learn about -an sound. afterwards, I asked them to read with me one by one and the rest can color while waiting.

Color time!

I just love Nudron's angry bird.

Crossword Game

I bought a crossword games for them to play and learn English in a fun way. It's a bit hard when they don't know many vocabs. So, I told them they could look at the dictionary ( in my talking dictionary one ) because what's more important is that they are learning now and it's not about competing.

Yaya-un and Hud are enjoying Crossword game.

Rice picking and beach time

Part of the volunteering experience is to learn how the locals  live and work so I join many people's rice field to help them pick the rice. They use thier own labour and most ( actually all of them ) of the rice field, the women are the people who works from 8 with 2 hours break during noon then work again until 5 in the eveing. No wages are paid since they are using the helping-each-other out system. They will go to thier friend's field and thier friends will help them back. It was nice, they chatted a lot. the only thing that made it so difficult is the sun. I can feel the heat coming right through my clothes.

. and JaNee is showing how to cut and pick  the  rice

My little fan club. These kids never work in the field and are curious with how thier mom pick the rice.

after a long day of rice's picking we always go have fun at the beach.

After I showed them fun way to jume they just can't stop,

A little bit of Democracy.

Since there is an election going on in the village, I asked the kids to draw and think of how they would help the community if they are a real candidate. Then we talked a bit about Democracy, what it means ? why do we need it? what is voting ? Why voting? Can you vote? Have you vote or elect someone before? . We had a nice time discussing about it.

Does Santa Exist?

Today I teach them about Santa Claus. Since they are Muslim so it is a new culture. I'm showing pictures of Santa, Snowman, Rudolf and Reindeer. They had a fun time learning new words and enjoy watching Jingle Bells Rock in Glee.

Dinners and sea exploring

We went to the other side of the island called KlongSon bay which is rich of seagrass and perfect to find some seashell to cook for dinners. I don't have the eyes for it, the locals can just look around and saw the shell then picked it up. I tried several times but failed even the kids do better so I suggest them we explored the are and find some interesting sea stuffs here.
